Uganda is an adventurous state with an amalgamation of natural attractions. Hiking mountains in the angelic country takes place mostly in the protected areas, but with chance to o the activity outside as most of the country is covered in mountains the western region of the Kigezi highlands has been nicknamed the Switzerland of Africa for its decorative winding hills, the multiple day trips take place in at the Mountain Elgon national park in the eastern part of the country, Rwenzori National Park in the west, the snow capped mountain is commonly termed as the mountains of the moon, straddling around the equator and experiencing the equatorial type of climate, the other best place to do the hiking is the Virunga mountain region in Mgahinga National Park it presents the Mountains of Muhabura, Sabinyo and Gahinga.
Mountain Rwenzori National Park hosts the highest point in Uganda, the peak is mountain Stanley raising up to(5,109m), the mountains are some of the worlds top classic experiences of mountaineering, the mountain ranges cover Africa’s highest mountain ranges covered in snow, it straddles along the border of Uganda and the democratic republic of Congo, the hike to the mountain top offers the most spectacular views of the forest, plants and tree and animal species, it is home to the forest elephants, Mountain Duikers, and other popular bird species that live here including the Rwenzori turaco and the great blue turaco, trekking the Rwenzori is a mysterious and fantastic experience , this can be done depending on the number of days you have in the country. The plant life along the forest varies according to the tropical levels. There are experienced guides who will take you through the walk and porters.
Mountain Elgon is found in the eastern part of Uganda, it is placed along the border of the lovely Country and Kenya covering the largest foot base in the world along which are human settlements of the Bagisu and Kaalenjins, the mountain was once one of the highest in Africa however following an eruption, it dripped into a large crater, the park hiking is less crowdy compared to other conservation areas, the mountain consists of five major peaks and its highest is Wagagai (4321m),the peak can be climbed from Uganda or Kenya, trails begin from Budadiri in Sironko district or in Kapchorwa from the Kapkwai exploration center, along the hike porters can be arranged to help you out more so when there is heavy equipment you will be carrying along the trail. Routes on the Ugandan side include the Sasa trail, Piswa route, Sipi route, and the Suam trail. Other sites on mountain Elgon include the Sipi falls, this escalades in three falls, beautifully flowing to the south towards the Lake Kyoka, the hike is so famous and easy to access.
Mgahinga National Park is home to three dormant volcanoes Sabinyo, Gahinga and the Muhabura, these are an extension of the great Virunga volcanic region, and three of these mountain are a part of the eight series of the mountains, along the slopes of the mountains are bamboo forested regions, home to the critically endangered species of the mountain gorillas and the golden Monkey. Mountain Muhabura is the highest of the mountains. During the hike you will pass through beautiful vegetative zones.
